Q. I just installed my new system and plugged it in and I get
no pressure readings. What is wrong?
A. The SmarTire system will not read pressure until the vehicle is
driven or if the pressure drops below 18 psi when parked. Try driving
the vehicle.
Q. How much pressure can the
Smartire System read?
A. The low pressure sensors read up to 78 psi and are suitable for cold inflation pressures of 65 psi and below. The high pressure sensors can read up to 177 psi and are suitable for cold inflation pressures of 45 psi and above. Please note that the high pressure sensors are slightly less accurate than the low pressure sensors.
Q. Will parts from my Gen 1 (RV 433) system interchange with
those of the gen 2 system?
A. No. The two systems are not compatible, as they use completely different
signal protocol.
Q. How many wheel positions can I use?
A. Up to 20 but you will need a receiver with external antenna on a
large vehicle or a towed application.
Q. If I have 2 systems will they cross talk?
A. No! The gen 2 transmitters have 4,000,000 different ID codes so
it is highly un-likely that the systems will cross talk.
Q. Will the gen 2 system work in my trailer?
A. Yes if you get the "Road Voice" system with the external
antenna . The gen 1 (RV 433) system does work well with trailers when
used with an external antenna.
Q. How long do the batteries last?
A. SmarTire transmitter batteries are lithium ion and have a long life.
Testing of the system projects that the batteries should last 7 years/90,000
miles based on average usage.
Q. Can I replace transmitter batteries?
A. No, the transmitters do not have replaceable batteries; the transmitter
needs to be replaced if a battery fails.
Q. If I need just one transmitter do I need to buy a whole
new system?
A. No, transmitters and other replacement parts are available.
Q. What is the warranty on the system?
A. The warranty is no charge replacement of defective parts (excluding
labor) for a period of 1 year from date of purchase.
Q. Will the gen 2 SmarTire sensors cause problems with tire
balance?
A. No, the sensors are very light (1.48 oz) however the tires should
be balanced after the installing of the smartire system.
Q. What is required pressure?
A. Required pressure is the that the tire should have at any given
operating temperature
(see understanding temperature
compensated pressure readings)
Q. Will a liquid tire protecting product such as Tire Life
™ affect my SmarTire sensors?
A. SmarTire does not recommend any liquid products to be used inside
the tire when smartire is installed.
Q. Can I balance my tires with Equal ™ powder if I have
SmarTire installed?
A. Yes, Equal ™ is compatible with SmarTire sensors
Q. I sometimes get an "E-1"error message, what does
it mean?
A. The "E-1" error message means that the receiver has not
received a signal from the tire that is blinking. To improve reception
try moving the receiver to a different position higher up or closer
to the affected tires. If this does not solve the problem call for help.
Q. How should I connect the 12volt battery power to the receiver?
A. For best results connect the power to a source that turns off with
the ignition switch.
