Q. I just installed my SmarTire System and plugged in the power and I don’t have any readings.
What is wrong?

A. Have you driven the vehicle? SmarTire wheel sensors have motion sensitive switches that transmit data to the monitor only when the vehicle is in motion, thus saving battery life.

Q. Can I pickup data transmissions from another vehicle that has a SmarTire system installed in it?

A. Yes it is possible but not very likely as you would have to be very near the other vehicle the exact moment one of its sensors transmitted data. The problem would rectify itself as soon as your vehicle transmitted data again.

(Data is transmitted every 30 seconds)

Q. Can I Mix Sensors or other parts of my RV 433 (Gen 1) system with those of the new Gen 2 system?

A. No, sorry but the two systems use different protocols and you cannot mix components , however this does allow them to be used along side of each other and they will not cross-talk.

Q. Can I use the RV 433 system in my trailer that I tow?

A. Yes you can! If the trailer wheels are over 30 feet from the receiver you should used a shielded module and external antenna available through Bob Dickman Tire Center.

Q. How Many tires can I monitor with this System?

A. Up to Six.

Q. How long do the batteries last?

A. SmarTire transmitter batteries are lithium ion and have a long life. Testing of the system projects that the batteries should last 7 years/90,000 miles based on average usage.

Q. What is slope (sl) and how do I know if it is correct?

A. Slope is a value that the receiver module uses to calculate required pressures at different temperatures. Cold pressure + 10 is the best starting point for this value but because different tires have different characteristics

It may need to be adjusted. When it is set correctly the pressure status will be the same at all temperatures. Cold pressure is 65°F.

Q. When I rotate my tires do I have to keep the same wheel sensor in the same wheel position?

A. No, if it is more convenient you can re-program the receiver module to re assign sensor ID #s to different wheel positions ( see owners manual )

Q. Will The receiver module loose its programming if I unplug it?

A. No, the module retains its memory without power. Memory will be retained if it has be previously saved.

Q. Should I “hardwire" the receiver (display) module?

A. We recommend hardwiring the receiver module on the RV 433 to a key power source so it gets reset every time you drive. Also this prevents battery draw down when the vehicle is parked.

Q. What is required pressure?

A. Required pressure the pressure that is required by the tire at the current temperature that it is operating at that time. (see understanding temperature compensated pressure readings)

Q. Will a liquid tire protecting product such as Tire Life ™ affect my SmarTire sensors?

A. SmarTire does not recommend any liquid products to be used inside the tire when SmarTire is installed.

Q. Can I balance my tires with Equal ™ powder if I have SmarTire installed?

A. Yes, Equal ™ is compatible with SmarTire sensors.
